Syllabus FAQs

Q1. For the Feed mini lesson - do we prepare an actual lesson for the class (i.e. role play as teacher, colleagues as students) or explain the step-by-step process of what we would like to do in an actual classroom for a class period?
A1. You can do either one, but the ten-minute limit is strict.

Q2. For the Model Class - is our lesson based on the "hot topic" for that week? The novel? Both?
A2. The model class is based on the novel/play/poetry for the week.

Q3: Are any more guidelines for the mini-lesson for Feed next week?
A3: I'm really interested to see what people come up with for the Feed discussion, so I am keeping the guidelines minimal.

Q4: When is the freewrite due?
A4: Please email it to me by Wednesday morning.

Q5. If we had taught our model class one week, our written homework for the next week would be the reflection? And if we were going to teach a model class the following week, our homework would be to prep? And if we neither taught a model class nor are going to teach a model class in the following week, our written homework is the hot topic paper? Is that true?
A5:  Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Q6: Do you want us to send you a lesson plan or any type of written plan before we perform our model class? I don't remember seeing anything about that on the syllabus.
A6: No. You can turn in the plan with the reflection if you like. People plan their lessons very differently and I want us to honor those differences and hopefully learn some new tricks from one another.
